Power Sources-Authority March 1st, 2021.

As a leader I would say that to build authority is a difficult process to do as part of one's career, but what is more difficult is to maintain it in a way that is fair and just for the ones working for/with you. From my life and work experience I have had to do with different types of authoritative people and I would say that gender plays a crucial role in this case. In my culture, men come out as the more authoritative figure in any context, family, work, society and so on. Talking in an workplace context, having authority does not mean just control and a privilege that you have more than others, but is more of an responsibility given to you through the power you own which it has to be well executed. Power is one of the main sources of authority and abusing it can really bring down one's authority. Authority is a quality that can derive as a result of recognition and respect that others have for one in the workplace, and this quality grows if it is executed properly not just in the workplace but in life too.
